Giving is a way of Life.

It’s interesting that when big disasters strike, a lot of people get in on a bandwagon and give in ways they never would otherwise.  It’s great that they do, but there is a deeper issue at stake than just a one time contribution to something.

A Personal Commitment

I know a lot of people who don’t give because they can’t afford to.  I hope that one day they can get to that level.  I know it’s tough for me to give to causes at times because of my own wants/desires or even needs. I am not talking about giving to every single cause that I think is worthy, I think about giving in terms of a personal responibility to making a difference not just in another life, but in mine.  This is a personal commitment to excellence in my own life that causes me to want to contribute.

“Zig Zigler says that you can have anything in the world that you want when you help someone else get what they want.”

I think Zig is right on the money with that, but it’s not just about your own wants, it’s that there is a community of people you can help, but that same community can also help you.  It goes both ways.  So who have you helped today? It’s a good question.

“There is a wonderful mythical law of nature that the three things we crave most in life — happiness, freedom, and peace of mind — are always attained by giving them to someone else.”

$90 is pretty good for a first week.

So far we have raised $90 dollars to help the Bean family take care of hospital bills.  Initially if you look at that number you think… “we still have a long way to go” on the other hand if you look at that $90, this has all been raised in one week through four people wanting to make a difference for one family.

That’s pretty significant.  This is people who don’t even know each other being drawn together through a single cause to help a family in need.

Meeting a need like this can be a slow process, but we are doing more than just giving, we are proving that a decentralized giving model can work and can work well.

The updates for the Bean Family and posts will resume on Monday.  I am a pastor by vocation so I am usually otherwise occupied on Sundays.  God Bless and Thank you to those of you who have given so far.
